1 A new method for monitoring of distribution transformers

Distribution transformers are one of the most important equipment in power network. Because of, the large number of transformers distributed over a wide area in power electric systems, the data acquisition and condition monitoring is a important issue. This paper presents design and implementation of a mobile embedded system and a novel software to monitor and diagnose condition of transformers, by record key operation indictors of a distribution transformer like load currents, transformer oil, ambient temperatures and voltage of three phases.

The proposed on-line monitoring system integrates a Global Service Mobile (GSM) Modem, with stand alone single chip microcontroller and sensor packages. Data of operation condition of transformer receives in form of SMS (Short Message Service) and will be save in computer server. Using the suggested online monitoring system will help utility operators to keep transformers in service for longer of time.

2 A Real-Time Conductor Sag Measurement System Using a Differential GPS

value of sag on a transmission-line conductor using a differential global positioning system (DGPS) is presented. The method includes a real-time data-processing module integrated into the DGPS system. The GPS signals corresponding to physical movement of the midspan of a transmission-line conductor were obtained so that conductor-to-ground clearance could be recorded in real time.Several field tests were designed and implemented to test the DGPS method under varying conditions of the transmission-line current. A comparison of results obtained from the DGPS method with those from a laser-range finder indicates an accuracy of 1 in.

3 A smart energy meter architecture in Indian context

This paper introduces a low cost Smart Meter Architecture to suit vast and diverse Indian market. An extensive review on Smart Meters research and market has been presented.

In addition, we propose a low cost add-on device for the existing electromechanical energy meters to update the customers about the billing and usage. A discussion on available and feasible communication technologies is included and the most relevant solution with cost analysis is proposed.

4 A system for mobile assisted living

In this paper, a system is presented which supports mobile assisted living by combining the advantages of smart sensors, GPS and GSM technology. The system can detect abnormal situations with the person wearing the wearable part of the system (e.g. abnormal heart rate) and send this information to the nursing home so that appropriate action can be taken immediately. The information sent by the system to the nursing home includes the current location of the person on the earth in the form of longitude and latitude. This location information is what makes the system support mobile assisted living. The hardware of the system includes Atmega microcontroller, GTPA010 GPS module, SIM300 GSM module, some sensors (e.g. heart rate sensor, temperature and door sensors) and some other components. The system software is developed in C language on CVAVR platform.

5 Accident detection and reporting system using GPS, GPRS and GSM technology

Speed is one of the basic reasons for vehicle accident. Many lives could have been saved if emergency service could get accident information and reach in time. Nowadays, GPS has become an integral part of a vehicle system. This paper proposes to utilize the capability of a GPS receiver to monitor speed of a vehicle and detect accident basing on monitored speed and send accident location to an Alert Service Center. The GPS will monitor speed of a vehicle and compare with the previous speed in every second through a Microcontroller Unit. Whenever the speed will be below the specified speed, it will assume that an accident has occurred. The system will then send the accident location acquired from the GPS along with the time and the speed by utilizing the GSM network.

6 Advanced distribution Transformer Load Monitoring

The Transformer Load Monitoring system (TLM) is a project aimed to reduce cost, increase efficiency and improve services to customers. The project was created by Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) Thailand. The purpose was to build a monitoring system for medium voltage distribution transformers. These transformers have been installed on roadside electric poles around Bangkok. Transformers' data is significant to load management and research about transformers. An advanced distribution transformer load monitoring system is capable of measuring voltage, current and power. It separates transformers into small groups and communicates within the group using and radio frequency module operating at unlicensed 433 MHz band. All collected data are sent to a master unit using a GSM modem saved to a database server.

7 An Embedded Interface for GSM Based Car Security System

GSM based security system are much more stout then an ordinary security system. The ordinary systems are simply based on the concept of sensors. They sound an alarm on detecting movement. This system of technology has now lost its appeal as it has become a common sighting in metros where these alarms go off unnecessarily. We proposed with GSM techniques and a better decision making process is built to make our vehicle more secure. It is a unique wireless home/car security device that gives instant alerts on your mobile phone the moment a security breach is detected. It is designed to alert you wirelessly through a call burglar alarm system intercepts an intrusion. proposed an 8 bit embedded controller inter model. The control mechanism is based on DTMF tones generated by mobile phone when the number keys are pressed

8 Analysis and implementation of a wireless sensor network with remote access through SMS

The use of wireless sensor networks for monitoring physical and chemical parameters in large regions far from populations allows for real-time monitoring with high levels of spatial resolution. This paper presents WubiNet, a wireless network designed for monitoring large regions.

Depending on the available infrastructures, the network can be operating for two years using only batteries, or its coordinator can be powered by solar cells to guarantee the transmission of the collected data by SMS using GSM/GPRS technology or satellite phones. The data are transmitted to a base station located out of the range of the node transceivers, where can be represented and analyzed.

9 Architecture of remote vital signs acquisition based — GPS

In this paper a architecture of real-time remote life monitoring system based on the GPS is presented.


The system architecture consists of ARM, vital signs monitoring module, GPS and GSM wireless communication module; it can be applied to long-distance medical treatment, exploring trends of potential chronic diseases and communicate illness, and urgent situations informing for sudden diseases.

10 Automatic Measurement and Reporting System of Water Quality Based on GSM

The traditional method of water quality testing is to collect samples manually and then send them to laboratory for analysis. However, it has been unable to meet the demands of water quality monitoring today. So a set of automatic measurement and reporting system of water quality has been developed. The system consists of multiple sensors of water quality testing, single-chip microcontroller data acquisition module, information transmission module, monitoring center and other accessories. Various parameters of water quality are automatically detected under the control of single chip micro controller all day. The single chip gets the data, and then processes and analyzes them. After that, the data are instantaneously sent to monitoring center by GSM network in the form of SMS. If the water quality is abnormal, the data will be sent to monitoring center and management's mobile in the same way at the same time. It is convenient for management to take corresponding measures timely and be able to detect real-time situation of water quality remotely. The system has realized the automation of water quality monitoring, intelligence of data analyzing and networking of information transferring.

11 Automation of residential electricity cut off using network based embedded controller

At the present time, along with the development of the Internet, automation becomes a very interesting theme to debate. This paper discusses the development of automation system for residential electricity cut off using network based embedded controller. Nowadays, various type of device for home residential electricity works dependently on human to control signals to reset the state of input. Based on this situation, it becomes an extrinsic motivation to develop an automated system for residential electricity device. The system consists of an embedded device to control power supply main switch and update the data into data centre. The users able to view updated power consumption as well as billing information in the provider web services. Cut-off warning message is send to users via email and short message services. The system helps the electricity provider to reduce the operation cost as the system could cut off electricity automatically when the usage limit is exceeded.

12 Bus Monitoring System Based On Zigbee And GPRS

Presently, public traffic system mainly depends on driver's manual operation, which will inevitably encounter many problems such as punctuality of the bus's arrival on bus station. Paper proposes an supervisory system based on GPRS and ZigBee technology, to improve the operation efficiency of bus monitoring system and realize intelligent transportation system. Paper introduces the bus monitoring system from the aspect of both hardware design and software design.


System takes it into accounts for the respective advantages and disadvantages of GPRS and ZigBee, and designs a feasible solution successfully, of practically significant.

13 Client-server based transmission scheme over GSM network for MEDTOC with patient classification

Cellular networks are becoming most prevalent network. Different applications are being deployed on them due to their ubiquity and reliability. We have been working on designing an emergency medical data transmission system named MEDTOC that would carry aggregated patient data on cellular network to the hospital. In this paper, we present an efficient scheme which implements the transfer of moving patient's vital signs to hospital via GSM network.

This scheme was implemented and tested by writing a Java based client-server application to transfer patients' vital sign information. Post-transmission operations include archiving, classifying and presenting the vital signs data on demand. We have investigated the problem of classifying patients based on their condition, as assessed through vital signs. With that information, patients can be assigned to the appropriate physician for remote monitoring.

14 Design and implementation of sea information system

Aiming directly at addressing the contradition between fishing-boat weather report machines' shortcomings and the request for timely and exact weather report. This thesis poses a weather report machines' program which bases on the GPRS. The program mainly researches the key technology of meteorological information equipment - GPRS, introducing its network configuration and agreements, posing a program based on client and service. It mainly discusses the realization of software, and designs programs in the Delphi visible developing environment.

15 Design of intelligent streetlight monitoring system based on STM32

This paper presents an intelligent streetlight monitoring system based on STM32. In this system, the microcontroller chip STM32F101C8T6 and wireless transceiver chip CC2500 and CC2591 are used. There is a control center and up to 100 groups of control network in the whole network, and each control network has up to 100 terminal nodes which can detect current, voltage and other information and send these information to the transition points by the RF wireless transceiver module, then the transition points transmit information to the control center through GSM/GPRS networks.

The control center will deal with the data so that it can know the situation of each streetlight. According to the result the control center gives orders to each streetlight to control the switch state and illumination of them.

16 Development of novel distribution automation system (DAS) on customer side distribution system

This research work has been done in designing and developing a Novel Distribution Automation System (DAS) in an open loop customer side distribution system. The research has utilized an automation techniques in both hardware and software environment using a communication network and embedded controllers along with power meters which has utilized the possible best solution for the fault operation and control tasks remotely. All hardware and software components have been developed and integrated together. Data exchange mechanism has been developed between the host computer and the embedded controllers that function in two way data exchanges between the two. The remote hardware controllers such as remoter terminal units (RTUs) are enabled to the communication modules to operate the substation remotely. The metering equipment is used as real time data restoration tool and gathers the customer's consumption energy information. Thus a multipurpose power meter is used as hand of the electrical utility at the customer side.

17 Distributed and Remote Control Based on Smart Hou1se

Under technological advancement, technology allows human life to be more convenient and safer. This study used LabView as the system development software and the computer on the server side, to develop an intelligent distributed monitoring system for monitoring household electronic appliances. Besides controlling the server-end, network and GSM system were used to construct remote control and monitoring capabilities. The communication between the server end and each control end was through ZigBee, thus achieving a wireless network.

19 Implementation of automatic gas monitoring in a domestic energy management system

A domestic energy management system provides effective positive behaviour change by offering end users direct and ambient feedback based on their monitored energy consumption and experiences. DEHEMS, as a wide scale domestic energy monitoring and managing system differs from others by enabling real-time and historical electricity monitoring and feedback. However, there is also a requirement to be able to monitor and report domestic gas consumption in order to reason and represent more complete energy feedback information to achieve effect positive behaviour changes.

In this paper, we present the gas monitoring system in DEHEMS, that implements automatic retrieval of gas readings. We describe how the system is designed, integrated within the DEHEMS architecture, as well as its implementation and deployment.

20 Long distance appliance control using mobile Short Messaging Service and internet in parallel

This paper illustrates a secure and reliable system for remotely controlling electrical appliances by Short Messaging Service (SMS) and/or internet. The system requires serial interfacing of two micro-controllers with SIEMENS AX75 cell phone and a personal computer respectively. A microcontroller unit was used to merge the independent subsystems for SMS and internet based control.


The micro-controllers were programmed in C and a webpage was created using PHP for internet based controlling. The proposed parallel controlling system incorporates user verification and registration, password protection and RF communication between central controller and the remote receiver segments. The overall scheme offers advantages over so far reported rigid control systems, which involve high cost GSM or GPRS modems. Also the proposed scheme can serve the purpose of appliance controlling in a large scale.

21 Multi sensor Railway Track Geometry Surveying System

Linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs) and inclinometers are widely used in many industrial establishments, particularly in the metrology area. These sensors are used by many engineering disciplines because of their high-precision characteristics. In addition, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers and total stations are widely used in geodesy.

Using GNSS receivers is very popular, particularly for navigational purposes. In this paper, a new railway track geometry surveying system, which is designed by integrating the LVDT, inclinometer, GNSS receiver, and total station, is introduced. This new surveying system is an alternative to classical geodetic measurement methods that are often used for controlling the railway track geometry. Track gauge, super-elevation, gradient, and track axis coordinates, which are railway geometrical parameters, can be instantly determined while making measurements by using the new surveying system.

22 Overview for solid waste bin monitoring and collection system

Solid waste management is a big challenge in urban areas for most of the countries throughout the world. An efficient waste management is a pre requisition for maintain a safe and green environment as there are increasing all kinds of waste disposal. There are many technologies are used for waste collection as well as for well managed recycling. In this paper we have introduced an system combined Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Global Position System (GPS), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and web camera. The built-in RFID reader in collection trucks would automatically retrieve all sorts of customer information and bin information from RFID tag, mounted with each bin. GPS would give the location information of the collection truck. All The information of the center server would updated automatically through GPRS communication system.

23 Positioning and Tracing System Study Of All Terrain Forest Fire Patrolling and Fighting Vehicle

According to Chinese forested area feature and traffic conditions, as to forest fires happen characters, the positioning and tracing system for all terrain forest fire patrolling and fighting vehicle is designed in this paper. Using GPS for fire location and arrange fireman could get high precision and safety, and could detect position and range timely and quickly. Those could provide fire basis for interrelated department. Construction choosing of ATV and software design are introduced in this paper, then combination map with GPS to realize the tracing and positioning for ATV.

24 Realization of intelligence monitoring system based on remote sensor technology

With the continuous improvement of living standards, people's demands on security also grow with each passing day. In order to achieve safety monitoring on important places or valuables, a new intelligence monitoring system was designed and implemented. It took the wireless sensor technology and the embedded control technology as the foundation. At the same time, it realized the wireless remote communication with GSM mobile communication technology. The structure, function and working principle of the wireless remote monitoring system were introduced. The hardware and software of the system were all designed and realized. It achieved wireless remote monitoring on important places and valuables finally.

25 Remote energy monitoring, profiling and control through GSM network

This paper presents design and development of a GSM based energy monitoring, profiling and control system. Our system integrates digital energy meters installed at consumer unit with an electric supply company's energy monitoring system. Single phase or three phase digital electric meter can be used with indigenously developed add on transmission module, which takes the meter reading and utilizes the GSM network to transmit the energy usage reading using Short Message Service (SMS) back to the energy supplier. At the supplier end, an energy monitoring system is used to manage all received meter readings, compute the billing cost, update the database and maintain an energy consumption profile for each user. Various alerts and control can also be generated by the supplier. A simple, cost effective and reliable working prototype of complete system has been developed using digital energy meter demonstrate an efficient and transparent means of automatic meter reading, billing and notification through the use of GSM network.

26 Research and implement of cost-effective remote transformer monitor system

The status of the remote monitor system is introduced and the composing and the principle of implement of the system are presented. Based on it, the function and the characteristic and each of modules of software and database design are introduced too.

The system improves the performance and stability of supply power and reduces the times of power cut, it can forecast the possible fault through analyze data.



27 Smart metering for next generation energy efficiency & conservation

This research study focuses on smart metering for next generation energy efficiency and conservation. The discussion here is based on implementation of new methodologies to achieve energy efficiency via two way interaction. Improved measurement technology by displaying all per phase information and three phase information on LCD at the meter side, automatic meter reading, power quality and exported energy measuring capability, energy and cost forecasting for better energy conservation are the key methodologies of this research. The digital meter was developed using ADE7758 energy metering chip, 18F452 PIC microcontroller and PCF8583 real time clock IC.

The data are sent to a remote server via SMS using SIM900 GSM module. The server handles the incoming SMS, processes, displays and stores the required information. Energy consumption and its cost, average daily energy consumption and cost prediction for the month are calculated in the server side.

28 Wireless black box using MEMS accelerometer and GPS tracking for accidental monitoring

In this work, wireless black box using MEMS accelerometer and GPS tracking system is developed for accidental monitoring. The system consists of cooperative components of an accelerometer, microcontroller unit, GPS device and GSM module. In the event of accident, this wireless device will send mobile phone short massage indicating the position of vehicle by GPS system to family member, emergency medical service (EMS) and nearest hospital. The threshold algorithm and speed of motorcycle are used to determine fall or accident in real-time.

The system is compact and easy to install under rider seat. The system has been tested in real world applications using bicycles. The test results show that it can detect linear fall, non-linear fall and normal ride with high accuracy

29 Web based remote exploration and control system using android mobile phone

A remote exploration and control system has been developed using web Application, web server, database, GSM network, and Android mobile phone. Web application is used to control remotely an Android mobile phone and electrical devices connected with the mobile phone. Firstly, command is sent from the web Application and saved in database. The Android mobile phone reads the sent command from database and performs predefined procedure to execute the command and hence, generate outcome due to execution of the command. Thus, this system can be used as an exploration and control system because remote mobile phone automatically implements command like capturing picture and upload the captured picture to the server and control electrical devices. Command is implemented to capture picture automatically of the surrounding location and upload it to server. It can also send automatically GPS location of the mobile phone to server's database. So, it can be used to detect the device's geographical location and collateral condition. Hence, it can be used in monitoring as well as in security system. Finally, command is implemented for generating DTMF tone signal on Android phone. A DTMF detection circuit, interfaced with mobile phone, can automatically detect the DTMF tone signal and generates 4 bit digital code output.

30 The Design and Research of Infrared Sensor Monitoring System Based on STM32

In view of that the current security system cannot quickly respond to remote warning, a remonitoring system based on STM32 and GSM/GPRS technology was developed. The alarm signal is sent to the mailbox or the user's mobile phone.


The actual application results show that the system is stable, fast to response, high in performance and may be widely used in the family and enterprise.

31 The development of Jinan emergency system based on “3G” technology

Emergency medical system can quickly and effectively provide emergency care personnel, equipment, hospital and medical services when a major disaster or emergent situation occurs. A scientific and efficient emergency medical system can significantly reduce the damage in the accidents. Based on the analysis of current 120 emergency system in Jinan, China, this paper designs a more reasonable and efficient 120 emergency system based on GIS, GPS and GSM (3G). GIS provides spatial analysis models and functions of geographical related operation, GPS achieves emergency vehicles positioning, and GSM establishes a data channel between vehicles and emergency center. Thereby, we can achieve scientific management of complicated spatial data and efficient urban emergency medical service.

We design a reader system combine radio frequency identification (RFID) and global system of mobile communication (GSM). Using GSM technology could prevent theft of the automobile and is convenient for the visitors to enter. This design can not only give the managers better management but also bring more benefits for people.
